Good morning and Happy Friday!
This has been a wild week and a half in the Southeast. Before we dive in, I want to make sure I address Hurricane Helene and the impact it's had on the community in Western North Carolina.
For me, NC has been home since 2007. I’ve loved this beautiful land and have explored it edge to edge. I was married in 2018 in Asheville. I’ve visited there every year I’ve lived here. I may not be from here natively, but the devastation wrought by the hurricane in the mountains and in Western North Carolina is truly overwhelming. I’m connecting with colleagues who have been severely affected; friends whose childhood homes have vanished and disappeared. Acres upon acres of pristine beautiful land desecrated by mother nature. The reconstruction is likely to take months, and the cleanup hasn’t truly started.
I’ve never asked anyone who reads this newsletter for anything. But now, I’m going to. There’s an OVERWHELMING number of places one could donate online to support Hurricane Relief. But how can we measure the impact we’ll have together as a group if we’re all donating to disparate organizations? Well, after seeing my good friend Phill Reed (not in Tech) raise nearly $1500 at our Run Club, the exercise I intend to take is to give my Venmo handle to anyone that wants to donate, and I’ll personally go buy supplies for victims and get them to WNC. No joke. There are tons of people heading up there daily I know and I’m desperate to help.
If you would like to donate to help those in need, my Venmo handle is @Phil-Moroni. I’ll update everyone next week on what’s contributed / raised and how this goes.
Seriously, if you’re able to help, please do. This is not a joke nor a scam. You all know me too well to know that I’d never do anything malicious to a soul.
Thanks for reading and stay physically and digitally safe!
OEM News & Updates 📰
KMS now supports ECDH - which I didn't know about until reading - which allows two parties to establish a shared secret over an insecure channel.
This new API enables the derivation of a shared secret using an external party's public key and a private key within AWS KMS which can then be used to create a symmetric encryption key.
ECDH agreements are useful for hybrid encryption schemes and seeding secrets in remote devices and isolated compute environments like AWS Nitro Enclaves.
Also supports cross-account usage and is available in all AWS regions with auditing capabilities thru CloudTrail.
Observe.ai | Observe adds genai Agents to observability platform
Observe has introduced GenAI agents to its observability platform to enhance automation and efficiency. Little late to the game on this one maybe.
The platform now supports open-source OpenTelemetry for application performance management (APM).
New set of AI agents orchestrated by an AI Planner assists DevOps engineers and IT admins by automating tasks and generating summaries.
Cloudflare | Cloudflare Enhances GPUs
Cloudflare has upgraded its Workers AI platform with more powerful GPU's to enable faster inference, larger models, and improved performance analytics.
The platform now has GPUs in over 180 cities worldwide to reduce latency and improve AI application performance by running closer to the user.
They also introduced persistent logs for better monitoring and a more efficient vector database, enhancing AI application development and affordability.
Veeam has announced a new integration with PANW to enhance data resilience and security ops.
The integration aims to address the increasing threat of ransomware that targets backups.
The new Veeam solutions will integrate with XSIAM and Cortex XSOAR to help monitor, detect, and respond to security incidents quickly.
Tenable | Tenable Launches Enclave Security
Tenable announced the availability of Enclave Security, designed for highly secure environments including classified or air-gapped systems.
Really targeting public sector and fed agencies with this as they have the most stringent data residency, security, and privacy needs (hopefully with all our info).
It aims to eliminate tool sprawl (consolidation / optimization), reduce costs, and boost efficiency by providing a single platform for managing IT and container exposures.
DigitalOcean | DigitalOcean Upgrades with Droplets
DigitalOcean has launched GPU Droplets, enabling easy deployment of advanced AI infrastructure on a PAYG model.
These droplets are powered by NVIDIA H100 GPUs designed for next-gen (already? we're literally already at next gen with AI?) applications and are available in both single node and multi node configs.
Really simple and easy to use apparently and easy to start training models on.
Exabeam announced its first quarterly product release since merging with LogRhythm, introducing LogRhythm Intelligence, an AI powered add-on for advanced threat detection.
The release offers increased flexibility for customers to choose between self-hosted, cloud-native, or hybrid security solutions.
LogRhythm Intelligence uses 795 behavioral models and 1,800 fact-based rules to improve threat detection and reduce false positives.
Nice release from them, especially in the deployment scenarios they offer.
OpenAI has announced some new tools for developers including a Realtime API that allows developers to build low-latency multimodal experiences.
Enables fine tuning of GPT-4o LLM using images and text, enhancing visual search, object detection and medical analysis.
Prompt Caching also reduces latency and costs for API usage by caching prompts, automatically enabled for the latest GPT-4o.
