Friday Tech News

Big Announcements from Wiz, Microsoft, and Others | 11/22/2024

In partnership with

Good morning and welcome to another edition of Friday Tech News! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week.

First off, psyched that Morning Brew wanted to sponsor FTN. If you’re not reading their work, you’re missing out. Thanks for the acknowledgment!

Second, there was a ton of activity in the tech world this week, with Microsoft’s Ignite conference happening and AWS’s Re:invent to come in just two short weeks, we should expect to see additional product announcements and updates then a slow down for the EOY.

I want to take a moment to say congratulations to Merav, Tomer, Julie, and all my friends at Dazz on their merger with Wiz. Yinon, Assaf, and everyone at Wiz is spearheading a new era of cloud security in the market, but more so to me, this merger represents categorical validation that remediation is important, and the associated ASPM buzzword is coming for your AOPs. Game on, let’s go. Checkout my interviews with Merav, Tomer, and Yinon from Wiz to get a look at their lives in and outside of tech.

In the hype cycle, there’s always items that go by the wayside. According to my friend Richard Stiennon and the IT Harvest Dashboard, I counted 38 unique vulnerability and application security companies in the pure play space. I don’t think ASPM is going anywhere any time soon. I would imagine that we see other exits and consolidation in the space in the coming 2-3 years but the main security platform players (Cisco, PANW, and now, Wiz?) will eat DSPM up first though IMO.

Finally - thanks for taking time as usual to read my weekly news and continue your learnings and education in the enterprise IT space. If you have questions, comments, follow ups, ideas, just reach out. I’m available as a lot of you know.

Stay physically and digitally safe,

Phil
